This morning we read the first paragraph on pg. 3 of Preach My Gospel.
It has this quote from The Family: A Proclamation to the World.
"The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally."
I asked the kids...
What do we do in temples? Charlie answered - Get married.
What is the difference between getting married in the temple and getting married outside of the temple? - Can you believe they didn't know?
We prompted a little bit by saying....in the temple you are married for e....
Then Charlie answered : for time and all eternity.
David explained that when we get married outside of the temple the preacher says till death do you part, and that means that you are only married while you are on this earth
We then explained that because Joseph restored the church (we had to go into an explanation of what the restoration is) we have temples and we can be married forever.
Heavenly Father wants us to be families forever and to return to live with Him. That is one of the reasons he gave us temples and helped Joseph Smith return the gospel to the earth.
I can't believe how much explanation goes into each little concept in this book. I can see that through studying it, the kids will completely understand the gospel by the time we're through it. I think a worthy goal would be to finish it by the time Charlie goes on his mission. We have about 11 years and it just may take that long!!!
